The Casablanca is a stand alone device which offers nonlinear digital
video editing with perfect picture quality. A complete system is priced
under $4,000, and comes in a 'VCR' type case.
Today, if you want to edit video and apply transition effects and text,
you have two options.
The first is to work with tape, or in analog. This style is linear video
editing, either with stand alone boxes or with PC's. Such systems are relatively
cheap. The disadvantages of such a system is that they are tedious, time
consuming, and the technology is often regarded as dated.
The second option for video editing is to work with hard disks, or in a
digital manner. This is called nonlinear editing since instant and random
access of any video is possible from the hard disk.
Such systems are relatively expensive. Also, they need a lot of space. The
user interface is very complex and often difficult to learn. The advantages
of the nonlinear editing method are many and the possibilities are amazing.
Immediate access to all of the scenes, significant time savings, unlimited
effects, and maximum precision are a few of these advantages.
Casablanca combines the advantages of linear editing solutions with the
advantages of digital systems.
